Deep Creek Ranch
Deep Creek Ranch is a remote ranch along the Rocky Mountain Front with unique design and maintenance challenges, as well as extreme weather, with 130+ MPH winds common during the winter. In a landscape largely untouched by humans, the importance of an ecological approach was of utmost importance. This included the use of native plants, strict control of invasive weeds, and sensitivity to wildfire and wildlife.
Client Goals
Valley of the Flowers Landscaping was presented with the challenge of restoring construction disturbance around this sensitive homesite. Native grasses, trees, shrubs, and forbs were used to make the home feel like it had been in place for 100 years. Intensive native plant gardens and outdoor living spaces with a variety of aspects provide homeowners with comfortable places to spend family time outside in all conditions.
Design Approach
Valley of the Flowers Landscaping worked closely with the clients, Pearson Design Group, and OSM Construction to create a landscape design that allowed easy circulation, introduced outdoor living spaces that are comfortable in all weather conditions due to intense and variable wind and sun exposure, and permitted a safe place for children and pets. Native wildflowers were chosen that can survive difficult weather, and provide year-round color and interest. Native trees and grasses were used to bring existing elements into disturbed areas to make the home feel part of the landscape.
Innovations & Philosophy
Balancing the remote nature of this site with the sensitive ecology presented a challenge that was met with strict protocols regarding material selection, and work flow efficiency to keep this project on time and on budget. Valley of the Flowers has continued a valued relationship with the homeowners to provide ongoing maintenance and landscape design/build services in other locations on the Ranch.
